From now on, mid-rolls, non-skippable pre-rolls and other types of annoying ads will have it very difficult. Google is starting to find them annoying and is no longer supporting them on YouTube, but especially on Google Chrome.
The Coalition for Better Ads (CBA) is an organization that strives for better ads. It has now announced new rules for short video ads. One of the CBA's founding members, Google, has also committed to these rules.
The rules will apply to video ads shorter than 8 minutes. This means that these restrictions will apply to the vast majority of current advertising spots. These rules will come into force at the beginning of August 2020.
Google will demonetize videos for all users who do not follow the rules. Currently, Google crawls sites with the Google Search Console integrated and notifies owners if their ad exceeds the limits. If they don't remove or modify the ad as required, Google will disable their ad from displaying on Google Chrome.
